Surgeon Shortage Expert Panel Videos

Operation Patient Access organized a panel discussion to help bring into focus the increasing surgical access challenges in the United States. Panelists discussed a new unpublished report on the migration of surgeons in the country and shed light on why some pockets of the country are at greater risk for shortage issues and offer considerations for policymakers as they examine how best to reform our country’s health care system.

Surgeon Shortage Panel Briefing: Pennie Hunt (1 of 6)

On March 24, 2009, Operation Patient Access held a panel discussion on Capitol Hill to focus on critical surgical access issues. Pennie Hunt discussed the importance of recruiting surgeons to rural areas and cited personal experiences. She is executive director of the Wyoming Health Resources Network, an organization that recruits health care workers, including surgeons, to Wyoming. Currently, nine of the 23 counties in Wyoming do not have a surgeon.
